Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) are used to measure
the maximal safe working abilities of current or
prospective workers.  They consist of a physical abilities
testing battery which helps match the physical abilities of
workers to the physical demand of work.  The placement of
workers by their physical abilities has been shown to
produce the following results:
  • Reduce the number of work-related injuries that result from a mismatch of worker
    capabilities and physical job demands.  
  • Identify individuals who have pre-existing injuries that adversely affect work
    performance and limit their ability to perform essential job tasks safely.
  • Establish baseline levels of functional capacity for each worker for future reference
    to reduce future rehabilitation and disability costs.
  • Reduce worker’s compensation costs.
  • Improve worker productivity through the placement of workers into jobs in which
    they can perform the physically demanding tasks efficiently without early onset of
    fatigue
