Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) can be a very effective tool for work injury prevention, medical management and disability management. The cost of a workers' compensation claim can be significantly reduced with accurate, reliable and valid testing.
An FCE is performed following a work-related injury to answer the following referral questions:
Can the injured worker return to regular work?
If unable to return to regular duty, what restrictions are necessary for a return to modified duty?
What progress has the injured worker made in their physical rehabilitation program?
Is the injured worker displaying behaviors that are consistent with symptom magnification or malingering?
The length of an FCE is typically two to four hours. A validity profile is performed for all tests to ensure that the worker is exerting maximal effort.
