The Post-Offer Pre-Placement FCE is an extremely effective tool for preventing work-related injuries. The length of the evaluation is between 30 and 60 minutes. Testing is limited to those physical demands critical to the completion of the job tasks. Critical demands typically have high strength, endurance and/or mobility requirement.
How it works:
Provides a screening evaluation on apparently healthy prospective workers following a conditional job offer, but prior to job placement.
The employer can withdraw the conditional job offer if the worker fails to demonstrate the functional capacity necessary to perform the physical demands of the job.
Post-Offer Pre-Placement FCEs consist of a limited number of tests for practicality and utility purposes.
The testing battery may consist of tests for lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, squatting, reaching, and grip strength.
The test items are selected directly upon review of a job description that contains a detailed description of the physical demands of the job, quantified by a job task analysis.
A medical examination is required prior to performing an FCE to identify contraindications such as hypertension, arrhythmias, hernia, and other potential uncontrolled medical conditions.
